Dsquared2 marked a significant milestone in the fashion industry with its vibrant, raucous runway show at Milan Fashion Week, celebrating its 30th anniversary.
The show, held on Tuesday, injected a dose of extravagance and creativity, opening with the dynamic rapper Doechii emerging from an armored vehicle bursting with dollar bills and concluding with the legendary Naomi Campbell showcasing a stunning leather biker bodysuit.
Founded by the Canadian twin brothers, Dean and Dan Caten, Dsquared2 has become synonymous with bold designs that expertly combine their Canadian roots with Italian craftsmanship.
Their tagline succinctly sums up their ethos: “Born in Canada, Made in Italy.” This fusion was celebrated in the anniversary show, which drew on themes of urban nightlife against the backdrop of a stylish New York City nightclub.
The runway was graced by a star-studded cast of models and celebrities, including the dazzling Isabeli Fontana and Irina Shayk, alongside rapper NLE Choppa. The spectacle was further enhanced by a parade of exquisite vehicles, with hot rods such as McLaren, Porsche, and a police car enhancing the high-octane atmosphere of the event.
Dsquared2’s collection showcased an exhilarating mix of men’s and women’s wear that reflected the designers’ signature street-savvy edge while leaving plenty to the imagination. The presentation featured daring styles, like short-shorts paired with laced-up corsets and T-shirts that flowed into dramatic long trains.
Sheer net gowns were effortlessly layered with oversized furry hats and statement puffer coats while men flaunted a combination of oversized shorts over baggy denim, presenting a laid-back yet edgy vibe.
This anniversary collection also highlighted various collaborations with notable names and brands such as Magliano, Vaquera, Better, Ducati, and Kiss. The innovative designs included a captivating array of T-shirts and glittery underwear that pushed the envelope in style and also embraced a playful and rebellious spirit.
One of the more amusing spectacles of the evening featured Brigitte Nielsen, who appeared dressed as a sexy cop, theatrically pulling the handcuffed twins out of a squad car. Although the nature of their ‘crimes’ was humorously left unexplained, it undoubtedly added a layer of entertainment to an already exciting show.
For Nielsen, the show was a magnificent one. “Dsquared takes Hollywood to Milan. They are amazing. The No. 1 show in Milano,’’ she said at the end of the celebratory show.
