John Legend Taps Nigerian Fashion Brands for the Global Citizen’s Move Afrika Show
On February 26, 2025, Lagos transformed into a global entertainment hub as Global Citizen’s Move Afrika show took center stage at The Palms, Lekki.
The star-studded event brought together some of the biggest names in music, including Simi, DJ Consequence, and John Legend, among many others.
As the headliner, John Legend didn’t just captivate the audience with his signature, soul-stirring performance; he made a bold statement through fashion.
The songwriter and pianist showcased a series of meticulously curated outfits, each a stunning masterpiece designed by some of Nigeria’s most celebrated fashion talents.
For his first look of the night, the RnB star stepped out in a stunning outfit by Eleven Sixten, the brand helmed by Nigerian-born fashion powerhouse Ugo Mozie.
Known for his ability to blend modern luxury with deep African influences, Mozie has styled some of the biggest stars in the world, and his brand is a testament to the evolution of African fashion on the global stage.
The outfit featured clean lines, impeccable tailoring, and intricate detailing, and of course stacks of cowries that paid homage to both contemporary and traditional African design. This look set the tone for the night.
Next, John Legend changed into an immaculately tailored white suit by Orange Culture, a brand that has been breaking barriers and redefining masculinity in fashion for years.
Founded by Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Orange Culture is known for its bold, expressive designs that challenge traditional fashion norms, blending fluid silhouettes with vibrant storytelling.
The structured yet free-flowing design of the suit perfectly complemented Legend’s smooth stage presence, proving once again that fashion and music are deeply intertwined.
The most talked-about look of the night came when Legend stepped onto the stage in a striking green-and-white polka dot two-piece by Emmy Kasbit.
Known for his innovative use of African textiles and handwoven fabrics, Emmanuel Okoro, the creative force behind Emmy Kasbit, has built a brand that celebrates African heritage in every stitch.
The choice of green and white went beyond mere aesthetics; it was a deliberate nod to Nigeria’s national colors. It was a tribute to Nigeria, honoring its rich culture, resilience, and creative spirit on a global stage.
By choosing to wear Eleven Sixten, Orange Culture, and Emmy Kasbit, the singer sent a message that African designers deserve the global spotlight. And on February 26, 2025, in the heart of Lagos, they got exactly that.
This moment will be remembered not just as a legendary performance, but as a turning point for Nigerian fashion on the world stage.
