As a black woman and Nigerian-born model, Moyawa Nicholas is pushing boundaries as well as making history. She’s the new cover star of Vogue Japan September 2020 Issue, alongside other young models such as Kaia Gerber, South-Sudanese-born model, Aliet Sarah, Ethiopian-born South Sudanese model, Shanelle Nyasiase and another Ethiopian beauty Amar Akway.
The latest issue seems to be entirely dedicated to young models with each of them on different covers. Captured by fashion photography duo Luigi and Iango, Mayowa slipped into a red dress with fringe detailing and basically looked like a supermodel. Of course, the clingy number isn’t the only amazing outfit from the shoot, although it is 100 percent our fav, the runway darling also posed in the accompanying images, transforming the cover spread into her very own runway. All of these outfits, plus the picture-perfect snaps, shows that now is actually the time for Mayowa Nicholas to shine, as the magazine clearly puts it.
“It’s a lot of history in the making! So happy to be on the cover of @VOGUEJAPAN !!😭❤️,” she wrote on her Instagram in excitement on the cover.
And not to downplay other models on the list. While Kaia Gerber gave off a modern-day Hollywood glam, stunning Aliet, as well as Shanelle and Amar, reminded us that black is truly beautiful. Keep scrolling to see the images.
