There might be countless of prestigious brands in Italy but as Gucci’s creative director proved yesterday, none can stage a runway show quite remarkable like Gucci. On the day 1 of Milan Fashion Week yesterday, the Italian luxury brand staged one of the most high-profile shows. Their latest collection with 120 pieces was showcased in a glass-encased runway which the brand’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, described as “The Alchemist’s Garden: an Anti-Modern Laboratory.”
“The alchemist’s garden is an anti-modern laboratory because it denies some of the principals on which is based a certain scientistism characterized by rigidity and determinism,” read the show notes. “It’s the place where the deadly logic of non-contradiction is overcome.”
Models stormed the tunnel-like transparent runway, showcasing the unisex collection which includes colorful kimonos, dresses, maxi skirts as well as ’70s bell-bottom trousers, beaded flannels, and track suits. Guests were also presented with a hooded white floral gown, an all-black look, plus a casual off-duty look consisting of a tank top, ripped short jeans and bedazzled face mask, perhaps for Lady Gaga.
In the accessory department: mullets, ornamented umbrellas, snakeskin-lined suitcases, fanny packs, and chokers were also the highlights of the show.
Gucci indeed carried everyone in mind!
