Apart from coming from a country where Christianity is portrayed to be practiced more than any other thing, I have attended many churches, and I can safely say the major fashion crimes are carried out in the Church. If you’ve been told that God doesn’t care about what we wear to the church, that He only cares about our hearts, and what we wear is never an expression of our hearts – you certainly need a rethink.
Church is a sacred place and the first thing that should spring forth in our minds before dressing to the Church is modesty – without any intention of dressing to deceive or for sexual attraction. If you cannot wear a tank top to your office on Monday morning or a maxi dress to a club, then they’re also things you shouldn’t wear to the church. Although here at Fashion Police Nigeria, we often emphasize that style is about dressing what makes you feel good and confident, but it has nothing to do with the Church.
From my own understanding, God doesn’t really care about our underwear, but however, what we wear matters in how people treat us and how we are perceived. And there’s that respect factor – for yourself and for others. As you know most men do pretty well when it comes to church and business environments, but if you’re not properly dressed, you’d be responsible for his soul if your style of dressing eventually avert him from the sight of the creator.
So whether you’re a new convert, a seasonal worshiper or an old-time member, here the 8 things you should never wear to the Church. Flip through the gallery to check them out:
