It’s one of the saddest news that tote bag is currently experiencing a total fallback in the fashion world. According to a new study revealed by Business of Fashion, the handbag style has actually been suffering as of late. This is as a result of a change in trend and the fact that consumers prefers the smaller bags that are inexpensive compared to totes. But as BoF reported, the handbag style is still experiencing serious decline in demand despite more and more brands offering styles that are much more affordable than in previous seasons.
“There’s been this myth that no one is buying handbags anymore, but really it’s a change in trend away from the big totes everyone was buying a few years ago, to smaller bags that don’t cost as much,” Dorothy Lakner, a New York–based analyst at Topeka Capital Markets, told BoF.
So in totality, women are now into small leather bags – from modestly sized cross-body bags to large wallets. If you ask us, there’s no way we can live our lives without a tote bag – because that’s where we put our entire life.
