While some teens were inspired by the Kardashians for their prom dress, Cassie Berta and Seth Moffitt surpassed all the expectations as they channeled Barack and Michelle Obama on their prom day. For their prom uniform, the duo took inspiration from the famous off-the-shoulder gown the former FLOTUS wore as well as the POTUS’ pantsuit during the 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in 2013.
When Michelle Obama wore the jaw-droppingly gorgeous green gown at the time, she was, of course, the belle of the ball. And that’s exactly how Berta wanted to be like. According to the teen, “I was on a dress site, and I saw the dress and fell in love. When I saw it I had to have it,” she told Yahoo Style. “When I approached my date, I said, ‘do you want to just be the Obamas at your prom?’ Because we are both huge admirers of what they did for the country.”
But apart from the fact that Berta was inspired by Michelle’s dress, she also sees the former FLOTUS as a role model. “They’re just a beacon of hope for a lot of people in the U.S. who feel marginalized. They’re really role models for me and my date. [Barack Obama is] the president we grew up with, and he and Michelle showed such strength and humility in office,” she said.
