It’s no secret skinny jeans continues to pride itself as one of the key wardrobe staples women are finding difficult to part ways with — you could pair it with a cute top and killer heels and instantly look like a million bucks or a supermodel on the front page of a major fashion magazine. This is the true attribute of skinny jeans and it’s unapologetically inevitable. However, there have been series of reports over the years about the negative health impact the coveted pants have on our body; one of which is muscle and nerve damage. And there is a new negative discovery that is also worth taking notes.
According to a new study by the British Chiropractic Association, the health effect of skinny jeans can be extended to causing major back problems. The chiropractors analyzed five fashion items (high heels, skinny jeans, oversize bags, hooded coats, and backless shoes) to ascertain the one with the highest risk of back problems and skinny jeans turned out to overshadow others.
As Tim Hutchful, the BCA chiropractor said, skinny jeans “restrict free movement in areas such as the hips and knees, affecting the way we hold our bodies.” Which means skinnies are not entirely good for our bodies. But before you toss them out, he also gave recommendations — “Moderation is best, and there are easy ways you can reduce the impact on your posture and overall health. For example, try and limit the number of times you wear skinny jeans or high heels every week so you’re giving your body a break,” Tim said.
