At this point, it’s no news that the fashion industry is notorious for sidelining the plus-size community. Thin models are often seen strutting the runway at fashion week and the lack of diversity makes it hard for fat women to breath in body confidence. So when we saw a news flash popped up on our Instagram feeds that there will be a plus fashion show at Heineken Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2016, we were so excited.
Latasha Ngwu of Aboutthatcurvylife.com is teaming up with Intel to coax the fashion industry to direct some attention to plus fashion brands as well as curvaceous women. And she has just succeeded (yay!). She wrote on her social media, “We are proud to announce that for the first time ever at #LFDW, there will a plus fashion show on the runway. #Aboutthatcurvylife Collective powered by #Intel will take the runway with a plus fashion collection put together by 5 plus fashion designers,” Latasha said.
This development is undoubtedly a huge success that will make history and is well-deserved for the curvy women. While we awaits the event to officially kick off on October 26th, 2016, we like to think some serious celebration should be taking place right now.
