LVMH has yesterday revealed the finalists who stand a chance to win the prize for the Best Young Fashion Designer of 2020. The nominees include a diverse list of designers selected out from 20 contenders who put their brands for nomination during the semifinal in Tokyo, Cape Town, London, and New York in February. According to the reports, the finalists were hand-picked based on their sustainable collections by a committee of fashion elite which includes Edward Enninful of British Vogue, Gigi Hadid, and Linda Fargo, the senior vice president and director of New York’s Bergdorf Goodman.
“This year, once more, the semi-finalists impressed us with their creativity and their commitment to creating clothes that are respectful of the environment,” said in a statement by Delphine Arnault, director and executive vice president of Louis Vuitton. “I would like to congratulate all of them!”
As for the nominees, there’s a South African label Sindiso Khumalo by Sindiso Khumalo, New York’s Peter Do, fashion week newcomer Casablanca by Charaf Tajer, Chopova Lowena by Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena, Nicholas Daley by Nicholas Daley, Tomo Koizumi by Tomotoka Koizumi, and Supriya Lele by Supriya Lele, and Ahluwalia by Priya Ahluwalia.
Apart from that, LVMH also announced that Rihanna will join the panelist on June 5th to choose the Prize winner at Paris’s Fondation Louis Vuitton. Other panelists include Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Clare Waight Keller, Virgil Abloh, Nicolas Ghesquière, Jean-Paul Claverie, and Sidney Toledano.
The winner will bag over the sum of $325,000, the opportunity to stock his or her collection at 24S and MatchesFashion, as well as a one-year bespoke mentorship program from LVMH.
