As one of the hottest rapper in the world and fashion designer, Kanye West is about to break the internet. The rapper announced on Wednesday by tweeting there would be “21 Pablo stores worldwide this weekend.” Turns out the tweet brought out thousands of eager fans around the world to queue up for hours (even in the rain) just to snag a piece of ‘Life of Pablo’ garments.
It is reported that the rapper launched a “pop up shop” across 21 cities worldwide, including Cape Town, Singapore, and a total of 14 North American cities — one in Toronto and 13 in the U.S., among them are — Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, New York, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. The stores will sell a clothing line that’s basically merchandising for West’s most recent album, The Life of Pablo.
According to WSJ, In Berlin’s hip Kreuzberg district, hundreds waited outside the unassuming art gallery 032c Workshop for the chance to buy a piece of memorabilia. Items for sale included a €105 ($119) “Woke Up and Felt the Vibe” white hoodie, and a “Kanye Loves Kanye” long-sleeve tee for €75. Each piece sported the word Berlin across the front.
Around 1 p.m., hundreds were still waiting inside metal barricades for security to let the next batch of shoppers inside. Shortly after 5 p.m., nearly 500 fans had wound their way through the tiny gallery space, the line counter said. A few continued to trickle in throughout the evening.
Reuters reports that, In Los Angeles, fashion designer Cesar Martinez waited 24 hours to be first in line and was rewarded with a phone call from the rapper himself.
“We’re going to work together. I have a notebook, I’ll show it to you, you’ll love it. I’m the future, bro,” Martinez told West. He also thanked the rapper for inspiring him, saying “I got out of the projects because of you.”
Karim Perez said he spent more than $900 in the Manhattan store on Friday on items including a black hoodie and a jacket. He said prices were around $10 to $20 higher compared to the first round of “Pablo” pop-up stores in Manhattan and Los Angeles in March.
On Friday, a black ‘Pablo’ jacket was being offered for $750 on EBay, while t-shirts were selling for more than $100. On a second note, shoppers will have until Sunday to buy an array of products just in time for The Saint Pablo Tour that kicks off Aug. 25 in Indianapolis. Scroll down to see a few images:
