Gert-Johan Coetzee To Make London Fashion Week Debut
South African designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee, is set to make his debut at London Fashion Week this Fall. This will mark a significant moment for the namesake South African label as he takes his place among the global fashion elite, bringing African excellence to one of the major fashion events.
As part of the upcoming Spring/Summer 2025 fashion week shows, running from September 12-17, 2024 in collaboration with Vanity Hub Africa, and in celebration of their 40th anniversary, London Fashion Week promises to highlight the incredible talent within and outside the UK fashion scene. Coetzee will have the opportunity to present his new collection alongside fashion houses like Burberry, Tolu Coker, and JW Anderson, marking a significant milestone in his career.
His highly anticipated show is scheduled to take place on September 15, 2024, at the renowned Covent Garden in London, a premier shopping destination. In a video announcing his participation, the designer expressed his excitement about showcasing his work on a global stage, emphasizing his desire to make his mark as a designer. He also extended his gratitude to Lady Obama, acknowledging her as a visionary who helped make his dream a reality.
“#AFRICANEXCELLENCE: Step into the world of Gert-Johan Coetzee, where fashion meets artistry and dreams become reality,” he shared the exciting news on his social media. “In just under 2 weeks, on September 15th, African Excellence is set to captivate the world on the global stage of the official London Fashion Week at the Vanity Hub African Runway catwalk, in collaboration with the prestigious London Fashion Week itself.”
Popularly known as South Africa’s “Couturier to the Stars,” Gert-Johan Coetzee is a prominent designer based in Johannesburg.
He is celebrated for his luxurious womenswear label; his more casual GERT collection, and a recently launched menswear line. The Johannesburg-based designer is renowned for his glamorous, body-conscious designs that are perfect for the red carpet. His creations, often adorned with ruffles, sequins, and glitter, are a testament to his commitment to the ultra-feminine style. His work is characterized by high-quality craftsmanship, featuring timeless silhouettes, structural cuts, and vibrant colors.
As one of the biggest South African labels, Coetzee has a long list of clientele including Bonang Matheba, Nomzamo Mbatha, Ini Edo, and more. He has hosted exclusive events like the intimate high-tea at Zebra Square Gallery in Hyde Park Corner in April 2022, where he launched his Autumn/Winter 2022 collection in collaboration with the luxury Swiss jeweler, Chopard. His collections have also been launched digitally, allowing a global audience to appreciate his artistry.
Now that the South African designer is gearing up to make a splash at London Fashion Week, we can’t wait to see what the designer has been cooking.
