Socks and sandals has long ago been declared as one of the major fashion faux pas. Even a quick check of the topic on Wikipedia affirms that wearing socks and sandals “is sometimes considered a fashion faux pas.” But the arguments couldn’t have been more valid until a British retailer, Debenhams in 2013 conducted a poll of 1,500 customers that lists socks worn with sandals as the top fashion mistake.
As Debenhams spokesperson Ed Watson pointed out, “It might look chic on a catwalk but this isn’t a look that many of us want to see on our local high streets,” For us, this may absolutely be right, because perusing the style scene will leave you with the conclusion that there’s no such style like socks and sandals — even when grandmas and grandpas swears by the combination.
However, to our surprise, H&M is reinventing the combo this summer. Who What Wear reports that, “the fast-fashion brand is offering up three takes on the look to try for the coming season, and honestly, they’re really, really good”. So at this point, what can we say? Since they’re really, really good — I mean very chic — we should all experiment it. Afterall, style has not rules!
