Meghan Markle Shines Brighter in a Flowing Yellow Gown For Her Last Day in Nigeria

As Meghan Markle wrapped up her visit to Nigeria, she’s left no stone unturned.

The Duchess of Sussex has been making a statement with her fashion choices throughout her time in the country, and her final day is brighter than ever. During a reception at the State Governor House in Lagos on Sunday, May 12, Meghan dazzled in a stunning yellow gown by Carolina Herrera.

The sleeveless gown, made of flowing silk, exuded elegance as Meghan glided gracefully through the event. What makes this particular outfit even more special is its sentimental value.

The dress was previously worn by Meghan on two significant occasions – Prince Archie’s first birthday in 2020 and the announcement of her second pregnancy with Princess Lilibet in 2021. By choosing to wear this dress again for her last day in Nigeria, Meghan pays homage to cherished memories while adding a touch of nostalgia to her final moments in the country.

To complement her sentimental outfit, Meghan accessorized with a pair of nude slingback leather sandals and a dazzling array of gold jewelry. Her choice of accessories included gold hammered disc earrings from Jennifer Meyer, a gold AURate collar necklace, and a stack of gold bangle bracelets that have become synonymous with her signature style.

Among the bracelets were her beloved Lorraine Schwartz ‘Evil Eye’ bracelet, a gold Cartier ‘Love’ bangle, a diamond hex tennis bracelet from Ariel Gordon, and a ‘snowflake’ diamond ring from Birks. She also added a green shawl to the look, which was a gift from the governor’s wife.

The reception at the State Governor House was hosted by Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, and the state Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. While giving a short speech, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the charitable work of the royal couple, saying; “we are happy for what they are doing for military men, mental health issues, and mental illness.”

This, however, comes after the Duke and Duchess were greeted at the Lagos airport with a lively acrobatic dance performance that left them in awe. The couple then made their way to Ilupeju Senior Grammar School, where they showed their support for the nonprofit organization Giants of Africa.

For the occasion, Meghan showcased her sartorial prowess by donning a traditional Nigerian maxi skirt designed with a white and blue striped aso oke fabric. The look, a gift from a reception in Abuja, paid homage to the vibrant culture of the country.

It was a touching gesture that resonated with the Nigerian people and further solidified Meghan’s connection to her Nigerian heritage, as she had previously revealed her DNA results showing a significant Nigerian ancestry.
