On the heels of her visit to Ghana where she met with President Nana Akufo-Addo and other key individuals in the West African country, US Vice President, Kamala Harris was also in Tanzania. There she met with Samia Suluhu, Hassan, the sixth and first female president of Tanzania, as part of her scheduled visit to three African nations aimed at shared commitment to investment and innovation across the continent.
While her fashion throughout her tour has been understatedly polished, the US vice president met with the Tanzania president in Dar es Salaam wearing a dark blue suit consisting of a one-button blazer, high-waist flared pants, and pair of pointed-toe heels. The tailored look was transformed with a complementary elegant beads necklace which added style and glamour.
The Vice President’s fashion sense can be likened to her commitment to her mission in Africa. Harris has been focused on forging warm relations with the African nations she has visited by emphasizing mutual investment and innovation. Her tasteful style on the trip highlights her respect and admiration for the African people and culture.
“The U.S.-Tanzania relationship has deep and historic roots,” she wrote in an Instagram post while sharing a photo of herself with President Samia Hassan. “President Samia and I look forward to further strengthening these bonds as we work to promote economic growth, tackle the climate crisis, and safeguard democracy.”
Meanwhile, President Samia Hassan dressed in her traditional Islamic attire composed of a burnt orange hijab and a long dress.
However, the US Vice President has continued to impress with her African tour wardrobe, exercising restraint with her clothing yet choosing pieces that project confidence and professionalism. She has continued to prove that timeless classics have the power to speak loudest of all. Her fashion statement has been echoed in the country’s overall mission in Africa. The United States seeks to cultivate greater bonds with African countries by providing meaningful support and opportunities.
This is no doubt an example of American international diplomacy with her understated yet chic fashion. Though the vice president’s wardrobe has been met with much acclaim, her actions of mutual respect and dedication to African nations are something that should be celebrated just as much. By taking a more personal and sincere approach to diplomacy, Harris is proving the power of connection and understanding. Her fashion sense is a subtle, but powerful symbol of her devotion to forming stronger partnerships and bonds between the United States and African countries.
