Applying a flawless makeup that makes you feel like a movie star takes a bunch of time and it’s never an easy feat. With that in consideration, you might just be hesitant to take off your makeup once at the beach for a swim but have you ever thought whether it has any skin effect?
Well, thanks to Hello Giggles who spoke with Great Neck Dr. Jeannette Graf, a New York-based dermatologist, we now know that swimming with makeup on is not actually that bad for a skin. In other words, it helps the skin to an extent.
According to Dr. Graf, “If makeup is water resistant and has sun protection, it can be helpful to your skin.” Which means the dermatologist suggests you apply a sunscreen followed by water resistant makeup that has SPF protection before diving in the water.
Dr. Graf also added that with salt and chlorinated water, skin irritation may occur but it’s avoidable if you clean your face once out of the water. “If it [makeup] dries with your wet skin, it can cause further irritation and bacteria can sit on the skin,” she said.
So, ladies, when next you hit the beach or your favorite swimming pool you know what to do.
