Every September, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of spring and summer collections on the runway. But while the clothes are exciting, we also often fall in love with the stunning beauty looks that accompany them. The hair and makeup looks debuted during Fashion Week have a big impact, setting the tone for beauty trends we’ll be seeing for months. This season, there’s no shortage of inspiration.
The ongoing Spring/Summer 2025 shows at New York Fashion Week does not disappoint. From bold vintage-inspired outfits to cool leather jackets and vibrant splashes of blue, designers brought their A-game. But it wasn’t just the clothes that caught our eye. Hair and makeup played a major role in enhancing the overall look.
This season’s beauty is all about creativity. NYFW makeup artists embraced bold and playful hair accessories, with everything from quirky clips and colorful scrunchies to an overload of hair bows making an appearance. For the makeup, dark eyes stole the show, while bob hairstyles in all forms added texture and variety. Not to mention, a fresh range of lip colors left us eager to experiment.
As we look ahead, we’ve curated the top beauty trends from New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025 that are sure to influence your looks in the coming months.
Subtle Blush Tints
For Summer/Spring 2025, the beauty trend is shifting towards a subtle blush. On the Monse runway, Patrick Ta applied a warm, dewy blush using the Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duo in shades tailored to each model’s skin tone.
Jason Wu’s models wore a new powder blush from his upcoming beauty line, layered for a natural glow. PH5’s models showcased a subtle sun-kissed look with orange or berry blush swept across the nose.
Lavender Under-Eyeshadow
Philip Lim’s show introduced a unique take on eyeshadow with a lavender “halo” effect. Makeup artist Fara Homidi used SHEGLAM Insta-Ready Face & Under Eye Setting Powder in Taro to create a fresh and airy look that extends from the under-eye area to the cheekbones.
Modern Coquette Hair
The coquette hair trend is evolving and gaining a fresh twist. At Alice + Olivia’s show, stylist Matthew Curtis transformed models’ updos with an array of romantic touches, including floral decorations reminiscent of the Gardens of Versailles, sparkling jewels, oversized scrunchies, and delicate lace.
At Allina Liu, the look was equally charming with braided pigtails adorned with bows, inspired by the whimsical aesthetics of Midsommar.
Decorative Buns
Designers are truly stepping up the game for their models and it was evident in the Alice + Olivia Spring/Summer 2024 New York Fashion Week show, where celebrity hairstylist Matthew Curtis, crafted romantic with bun embellishments. After pulling the hair back, Curtis added a touch of elegance with XL satin scrunchies and used Briogeo’s Style & Treat Yuzu + Plum Oil Sleek Stick to tame any stray hairs.
Bold Blunt Bobs
If you’re contemplating a dramatic haircut, this might be the perfect time. Blunt bobs made a strong statement across various shows at the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2025, each styled in unique ways.
At Christian Siriano, TRESemmé lead stylist, Lacy Redway, added a layer of glitter to the bob cut, creating a ‘fairy-dusted’ look with TRESemmé Extra Hold Mousse and Mega Control Gel. Christian Cowan also embraced the blunt bob trend, showcasing it in a black shade. His version, known as the ‘contour bob,’ perfectly followed the contour of the cheekbone for a dramatic effect.
‘90s Ash-Toned Shades
The influence of ‘90s beauty continues with ash-toned lip colors. At Palomo Spain, Marcelo Gutierrez used MAC Cosmetics M.A.Cximal Silky Matte Lipstick for a cool, ashy lip shade. At Kim Shui, Romero Jennings applied a mix of MAC lipliners and M.A.Cximal Silky Matte Lipstick for a range of tones, particularly suited for darker skin tones.
Soft Baby Pink Lips
In a nostalgic nod to Y2K beauty, Sandy Liang featured models with soft pastel pink lips, reminiscent of early 2000s glamour. Makeup artist Romy Soleimani achieved this look by blending Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Whipped Matte Lip in Air Kiss and Social Whirl, with a hint of white pigment for a dreamy baby pink shade.
Bold Cherry-Red Lips
Red lips are making a bold statement this season, with a brighter and more striking look. At Alice + Olivia, makeup artist Michela Wariebi created a glossy red lip using Tarte’s Juicy Vinyl in Apple, Juicy Lip Liner, and Juicy Plumping Lip Oil.
For a matte finish, Romy Soleimani used Estee Lauder’s Double Wear 24H Stay-in-Place Lip Liner in Red and Pure Color Explicit Matte Lip in Heartbeat at Maria Mcmanus. Ulla Johnson offered a softer take with an ombré red lip that fades from the center outward.
Smoky Waterlines
Smoky waterlines are taking center stage at New York Fashion Week Spring/summer 2025 shows, as seen at Area, Jonathan Cohen, and Christian Siriano. This updated take on the classic eyeliner trend adds a sophisticated edge.
At Jonathan Cohen, models sported Cleopatra-inspired winged liner paired with a smoky, buffed-out waterline, softening the bold look. Similarly, at Kim Shui, makeup artist Romero Jennings used MAC Smolder Eye Kohl Pencil to line the waterline, achieving a subtle smoky effect that complemented the 90s-inspired glamour seen throughout the collection.
