Cannes Film Festival 2025 Red Carpet Looks To See
The 2025 Cannes Film Festival has officially begun, and as always, the red carpet is proving to be just as iconic as the films being premiered. Set against the stunning backdrop of the French Riviera, Cannes is more than just a celebration of global cinema, it’s one of fashion’s most glamorous playgrounds.
Every year, the Cannes Film Festival attracts a dazzling mix of Hollywood royalty, international stars, fashion muses, and cultural icons, all dressed in show-stopping looks that set the tone for the season. This year is no different.
The opening ceremony at the Grand Théâtre Lumière kicked off in spectacular style, with the arrival of Bella Hadid in an elegant Saint Laurent gown, followed by a cascade of unforgettable looks from the likes of Julia Garner, Eva Longoria, and many more. The spotlight is firmly fixed on fashion, and so far, it’s shining bright.
But 2025 also brings a new twist to the festival’s long-standing fashion legacy: an updated and much-discussed red carpet dress code. The festival’s organizers have issued stricter rules this year, banning sheer or “naked” dresses and any outfit considered obstructive or impractical, especially those with large trains that could disrupt the flow of foot traffic or interfere with seating.
“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival,” the official statement reads.
The change marks a shift from Cannes’ recent trend of embracing more daring fashion moments and has already sparked conversation in fashion circles.
The festival has a history of controversial fashion rules, like the once-mandated high heels for women, and this latest update is being viewed by many as both a nod to tradition and a challenge to creativity.
Still, if there’s one thing Cannes attendees know how to do, it’s how to dress to impress within any boundaries. Bella Hadid’s Saint Laurent look was a masterclass in refined drama, perfectly toeing the line between bold and elegant. Eva Longoria dazzled in a silver Elie Saab gown, its intricate beadwork catching the light with every step.
Julia Garner brought a futuristic edge to the carpet with a structured metallic Gucci piece, while Robert De Niro, recipient of the honorary Palme d’Or, looked effortlessly classic in a sleek tuxedo as he accepted the honor from longtime friend Leonardo DiCaprio.
The jury members (Halle Berry, Juliette Binoche, Jeremy Strong, and Leïla Slimani) also made sartorial statements of their own, adding even more glamour to the evening’s atmosphere.
