This past weekend at Coachella was filled with unexpected and touching moments.
One of the most memorable highlights came from Lauryn Hill, a Grammy Award-winner known for hits like Ready or Not, Killing Me Softly, Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, and more. She stepped onto the Coachella stage dressed in a bright yellow suit from Balmain, surprising many in the audience.
Lauryn joined her son YG Marley during his performance and wowed the crowd with an amazing set, performing popular songs like “Ex-Factor” and “Lost Ones.” She even reunited with Fugee member Wyclef Jean to sing “Killing Me Softly.”
But aside from her come-back performance, Lauryn Hill’s Coachella look was one for the book. The singer plucked out a monochrome pantsuit from Balmain’s men’s Fall/Winter 2024 ready-to-wear collection. The ensemble was part of a collaboration with Ghanaian artist Prince Gyasi.

The look included a sharp-shouldered blazer and straight-cut pants that were adorned with a design based on Gyasi’s 2022 artwork titled “Nami (Large).” Like the original artwork, the Grammys winner wore a bright red silk loincloth around the knee area that played up the pantsuit.

Hill’s vivid outfit even matched perfectly with the stage’s background visuals, particularly when a giant Ethiopian flag with the “Lion of Judah” was displayed on the screen. This version of the flag is often associated with the Rastafarian faith, a belief held by YG’s grandfather, the legendary reggae musician Bob Marley.

Balmain described the two-piece as a tribute to artistic expression and craftsmanship, which perfectly aligns with Lauryn Hill’s history of infusing meaning into every aspect of her work.
