Ankara Fashion Is Dominating For Prom 2016 — See The Styles

There’s no denial Ankara fashion has gone mainstream. And whether you believe it or not, in no time, the colorful prints will become one of the go-to fabric for luxury fashion brands.

When Kymeah Mcentyre posted a photo of her wearing the colourful Ankara gown she designed to prom last year, not only did she break the internet, but the photo garnered rave reviews for a teen girl to have crafted such an incredible style.

Fast forward it to 2016, another photo of a teen girl (Mayalaya Zanders of Garfield Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio) wearing her own ankara dress is making rounds since last week, after her teacher had told her that African prints were “tacky” for prom. But she proved her wrong.

Interestingly, Mayalaya wasn’t the only one who embraced the African heritage at this year’s prom, a slew of other African-American teens across America hit their prom in different styles of Ankara, letting the world feel the uniqueness and beauty of the colorful prints. This is beautiful and it’s so inspiring how fashion is uniting Africans. Click through the gallery to see more photos from 2016 prom:
