New York Fashion Week kicked off yesterday and without a doubt, Kanye West’s show featuring his collaboration with Adidas (#yeezyseason) was the center stage.
Kanye West’s debut ‘Yeezy Supply’ collection for Adidas was just shown in New York, where friends Beyoncé, Jay Z, Rihanna, Diddy, and Alexander Wang took over the front row (next to West’s wife and daughter, Kim and North). The collection features bodysuits, knee-high socks, and hues of peach, army green, and nude.
According to reports, apart from Kanye’s close friends, everyone including the Editor in Chief was restricted from the venue. The report further stated that the door of the venue wouldn’t open because of “rehearsals,” and that got the fashion crew pissy.
After a lengthy wait, the crowd was ushered into a space where models stood in rows of five in darkness; the only sounds were North West’s cries before she was ushered backstage. Overhead lights came on in waves, like a thunderstorm rolling in, to reveal the collection with an intro from the rapper/designer himself:
“This is Yeezy Season 1. People who like, write just negative comments, they want to joke around and say, “Why is he still trying?” You know, if I see something, I see opportunity, I’m gonna go for it. I’m here to crack the pavement and make new grounds, you know, sonically and society, culturally. We’re not always in the position that we want to be at. We’re constantly growing, we’re constantly making mistakes, we’re constantly trying to express ourselves and trying to actualize our dreams. I want to create something better for you.
We have been limited. It’s bigger than who I am in this, you know, in my presence living. It’s about, you know, when I was on earth, what did I do to help? I want people to think more—I want people to feel like it’s okay to create and follow what their dreams are, and not feel boxed in. I want people to feel like awesome is possible. There’s a lack of creativity in every field ’cause people are afraid. As an artist, and in this world, we can do whatever we want. “
It was like a family thing as West enlisted his sister-in-law, Kylie Jenner, to model the collection. Khloe Kardashian shared the look on her Instagram, captioning the post, “#YeezySeason such a major moment for Kylie!!!! What an artistic and inspirational show!!! #Vibes”.
The Models:
We have to hand it to Kanye: The casting was super diverse in terms of ethnicity and size. Monic Perez, 22, who modeled in the show, told us that Kanye was “involved in absolutely everything, from the casting up until this point.” As for the nude body stockings the models wore? “It’s so hard, it takes about 20 minutes to get into.” [Vie Elle]
The Clothes: Though it look wearable, comfortable, utilitarian, distressed, cool, but at the same time look crazy.
This is the Adidas Yeezy 750 Boosts that got people’s minds blown up.
Everyone was there. From left to right that’s: Rihanna, Cassie, Diddy, Jay Z, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian.
Even baby North too, as Kanye was giving him a tour of the venue, while Beyoncé and Jay Z gave West a standing ovation.
West’s wife and daughter, Kim Kardashian and North West, also attended the show in support.
