Owned by sisters Teni, Tiwa & Aba Sagoe, daughters of Nigerian top fashion designer & icon Deola Sagoe; the fashion label has unveiled its 2014 collection and they’re absolutely fabulous.
There are certain pieces that stand the test of time. A little black dress, a string of pearls and a well cut suit. They are more than wardrobe basics, but are wardrobe essentials to be honest, made even stronger when rendered with simplicity and minimalism in mind. It’s that component of your wardrobe that fashion label CLAN has turned their attention to for their new Classics line.
The collection itself is made up of 23 monochromatic looks. Emphasis comes heavily placed on silhouette, with dresses and blazers nipped in at the waist, peplum detailing only adding to the hourglass effects of the looks. The result comes off as a type of timeless, “old Hollywood glamour,” the same glamour that inspired the lookbook shoot by way of Blake Edwards’ “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

To speak to that sort of timeless, and ultimately feminine quality, the Nigerian designer Teni Sagoe, chose to name pieces after Greek goddesses as well as other feminine names of note. The Audrey, a sleekly demure little black dress that cuts above the knee and the Adonia, a fitted blazer with power net sleeves that cling to the arms, are just two styles from the line, to be made available year-round. It’s a working woman’s wardrobe, with power suits for day — there’s even white blouse with pussy bow to boot, — but with the influx of dresses for sophisticated Sunday brunches and full length gowns for evening, it’s for only the most sophisticated of that group.
